A popular television host known as China's Larry King said that Shanghai authorities pulled the plug on his talk show this year to prevent him from exposing a sensitive case of local official corruption.

一名頗受歡迎、被譽為中國的賴利金的電視節目主持人說，上海當局今年停播他的談話節目，是要避免他揭發一宗當地官員貪瀆的敏感案件。

In his first interview with Western media since being forced off of the air in February, Taiwan-born finance professor Lang Hsien-ping said he kept silent after receiving threats of expulsion, imprisonment and even assassination.

生於台灣的財經教授郎咸平在節目於二月間被迫停播後，首度接受西方媒體訪問時表示，他之所以保持沉默，是因為遭到驅逐、入獄與甚至暗殺等威脅。

His show -- Larry Lang Live -- was a near overnight success after it started in 2004, becoming one of the city's three most popular programmes.

他的節目－財經郎閒評－在2004年首播後幾乎是一夕爆紅，成為上海市3大最受歡迎的節目之一。

Since being shut down, he came under fire from Chinese academics who charged he had links to Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian and opposed economic reforms.

自從節目被停播後，他便飽受攻擊，被中國學者指控與台灣總統陳水扁有所關聯，而且反對經濟改革。

"I have never opposed reforms. I merely questioned the path of reform," the greying Lang, 50, said in a Beijing teahouse. He also denied any connection to Chen.

「我從來沒有反對改革。我只是質疑改革道路，」50歲、頭髮花白的郎咸平在北京一間茶坊說。他也否認與陳水扁有任何關係。
