The Brazilian metropolis Rio de Janeiro is providing designated "women only" cars on city and regional trains in order to protect female passengers from sexual molestation, said Metro Rio press spokesman Joubert Flores.

巴西大都會里約熱內盧將推出指定的「限女性搭乘」市區車輛及區域火車，以保護女性乘客免受性騷擾，里約大都會發言人卓伯．佛洛瑞斯說。

Marked with a pink stripe, the "special cars" are to appear in line with a law approved on March 23 that allows for such cars between 6.00 to 9.00 am and between 5.00 and 8.00 pm.

這種加上粉紅色條紋的「專車」，係依據3月23日通過的一項法律推出。該法允許這種車輛在早上6點至9點，以及下午5點至8點這兩個時段行駛。

Women in the city have increasingly complained that they are often groped by men in the packed trains.

愈來愈多該市的婦女抱怨經常在擁擠的火車上遭男人鹹豬手襲擊。

As many as 49 per cent of the 500,000 people who use the city train system daily are women, Flores said. The regional train system transport another 400,000 people.

佛洛瑞斯說，每天使用該市火車系統的50萬人中，婦女佔49%。區域火車系統還為另外40萬人提供運輸服務。

Flores however said most of male passengers knew how to behave themselves. "They don't even throw paper on the floor," he said.

不過，佛洛瑞斯表示，大部分男性乘客都知道潔身自愛。他說：「他們甚至不會把紙屑丟在地板上。」

There will be no special policing of the new system, he added. The authorities are certain that "the women （passengers） will make certain that no men get on the cars."

他補充說，這套新（運輸）系統不會特別派駐警力，當局有把握「女性（乘客）會確保沒有男人上車。」
