British Prime Minister Tony Blair and German Chancellor Angela Merkel are Europe's best paid leaders,each earning more than 260,000 euro a year, according to a new study.

英國首相布雷爾與德國總理梅克爾是歐洲薪水最優渥的領導人，兩人每年收入超過26萬歐元（約台幣1,046萬），據一項新研究指出。

The study,conducted by management consultancy Hay Group and published in German magazine Wirtschaftswoche on Saturday, put Blair's annual salary at 268,500 euro,just ahead of Merkel at 261,500.

由管理顧問公司「海氏集團」進行、週六刊登在德國經濟週刊的這項研究，估算布雷爾年薪為268,500歐元（約台幣1,080萬），梅克爾以261,500歐元（約台幣1,052萬）緊接在後。

Slovakian Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda, with a yearly salary of 39,100 euro, was the lowest paid leader in the 13 European countries surveyed. Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz was just ahead of Dzurinda at 53,400 euro.

斯洛伐克總理祖林達年薪39,100歐元（約台幣157萬），是這次調查的13個歐洲國家中，薪水最微薄的領導人。波蘭總理馬辛基維茨稍好一些，年薪53,400歐元（約215萬台幣）。

U.S. President George W. Bush earns an annual salary of $400,000.

美國總統布希年薪達40萬美元（約台幣1,263萬）。

Despite being the best paid leader in Europe, Blair earns only 5 percent to 10 percent what the top executive in a British blue-chip company makes,the study said. Merkel, meanwhile,earns 10 percent to 15 percent of what a top German manager makes.

儘管布雷爾是歐洲薪資最高的領導人，但賺的錢只有英國大型上市公司高層幹部的5%到10%；梅克爾的年薪只有德國高階企業管理人的10%到15%。

Prime Minister：首相或總理。一般君主立憲國家的行政首長稱為首相、共和國家的行政首長叫總理。總理的英文也可能是chancellor（德國）、premier，依國家制度不同而稱呼有別，如我國行政院長稱為premier（閣揆）。不過用詞的不同，也可能與各國歷史發展、文化沿革有關，無特定的道理可循。

salary：本字與wage、income及pay等名詞都可以表示「工資、收入」的意思。 salary指按月或按星期平均給予的報酬，通常指腦力勞動者的收入。 wage指體力勞動者的工資，多用複數形式，是按小時、日或星期給予的報酬。 income指定期的收入，多是通過勞動或投資等手段得到的收入，強調的是總收入。pay可指軍餉，或可作為通用詞，取代salary與wage。

blue-chip：「藍籌」，華爾街術語。以前美國賭場所用籌碼以不同顏色做代表，而其中最大籌碼是藍色。因此，人們便藉此稱一些大型上市公司股份為藍籌股，意思是這些公司的股價夠高，而市值又夠大，交投活躍。
