A veteran Sherpa guide who broke his own record by scaling Mount Everest for a 16th time last month returned to the Nepalese capital this week and began discussing his next trip to the top of the world.

一位剛打破自己紀錄、在上個月第16度攀登聖母峰的雪帕導遊，本週回到尼泊爾首都，並開始討論下一趟攀登世界頂端的行程。

“I will climb at least one or two more times depending on the condition on the mountain,” Appa said upon arrival at Katmandu's airport.

阿帕抵達加德滿都機場時說，「我至少會再爬一、兩次，視山上的情況而定。」

Appa — a modest, thinly built 46-year-old— is one of the most respected climbers in the mountaineering community. His closest competitor, fellow Sherpa guide Chewang Nima, 40, scaled the peak a 14th time last month.

阿帕—中等高度、有點瘦的46歲雪帕人—是登山運動圈內最受尊崇的登山家之一。最接近他紀錄的挑戰者，是上個月第14度登頂的40歲雪帕嚮導齊旺．尼瑪。

Appa reached Everest's 8,850-meter summit while guiding a group of international climbers on May 19. The trek wasn't without tragedy as he lost two Sherpa members of his team in an ice avalanche in April.

阿帕5月19日陪一群國際登山者攻上8,850公尺的頂峰。這趟旅程發生了災難，另外兩位雪帕族人4月時因雪崩喪生。

Appa made his first summit of Everest in 1989 with a New Zealand team. Appa said his family, especially his wife, discourages him from climbing the world's highest peak. However, the family depends financially on his once-a-year climb, which earns him about US$1,500.

阿帕1989年隨著一個紐西蘭登山隊首度登上聖母峰。阿帕說他的家人，特別是他太太一直勸他不要再爬世界最高峰了。但是，家裡的開銷得靠他每年爬一次聖母峰的所得支應，一趟大概可賺1,500美元。
