Pregnant Zimbabwean women are fleeing their homeland to give birth in South Africa and avail of child support, a police spokeswoman said.

懷孕的辛巴威婦女不斷逃離祖國前往南非生產，藉以利用（南非政府提供的）育兒補助，一名警方女發言人說。

Many of those arriving were crossing the border illegally, said a police spokesman in the South African province of Limpopo which borders Zimbabwe. As soon as they had given birth, the women applied for child support grants of 31 dollars per month.

許多到達南非的孕婦都是非法跨越國界，與辛巴威接壤的南非林波波省一名警方女發言人說。 這些婦女生產後，隨即申請每月31美元的育兒補助金。

A total of 2,300 Zimbabweans were arrested during weekend raids, SAPA news agency quoted a police spokeswoman in Musina, Maggy Mathebula, as saying.

總計2千3百名辛巴威人在週末的掃蕩行動中被捕，南非新聞聯合社（SAPA） 引述穆西納地區的警方發言人瑪姬．瑪絲布拉的話報導。

"The women told us they came here to give birth so that their children can get South African birth certificates," she said. "This in turn makes them qualify for child support grants." About two to three million Zimbabweans are presently living in South Africa.
