Two teenagers were hospitalized in serious condition after a man allegedly opened fire on them as they went door-to-door to collect candy on Halloween night, local police said.

當地警方說，兩名青少年據悉在萬聖節晚上挨家挨戶索討糖果時，遭一名男子朝他們開槍後，重傷送醫救治。

Officials said a retiree apparently shot the 14-year-old boys who were with a group of friends when they knocked on his door in the small town of Chiaverano, about 3 kilometers north of Ivrea, in northern Italy.

官員指出，一位退休老人顯然對和一群朋友在一起的這兩名14歲男孩開火，當時他們敲了他位於小鎮恰維拉諾的家門，該鎮位在義大利北部的艾芙瑞亞以北約3公里處。

Police in Ivrea said the youths were expected to survive. Paola Capozzi of the Ivrea police station said the 70-year-old man, Benito Dabbelani, had been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Police officers searched Dabbelani's apartment and found that the weapon he used was registered. Capozzi said the group of teenagers had thrown fire crackers outside the man's door, who then fired at them to scare them away. ``He didn't realize he wounded them. He lives on his own and has been the victim of jokes in the past, children made fun of him because he was isolated,'' Capozzi said. ``Of course, that doesn't justify what happened.''

警官搜查達貝藍尼的公寓，發現他使用的武器已登記。卡波奇說，這群青少年在該男子住家外丟擲鞭炮，他朝他們開槍，想嚇跑他們。「他不知道他傷了他們，他獨居，過去常被嘲笑，孩子們因為他孤家寡人而捉弄他，」卡波奇說。「當然，這不能合理化所發生的事。」

Halloween︰其實是指萬聖節（All Saints）前的夜晚，亦即10月31日晚上。當晚孩子盛行打扮得鬼裡鬼氣，手提南瓜燈，挨家挨戶敲門要糖，嘴裡則說“trick or treat”（不給糖就搗蛋）。

attempted murder︰ 謀殺未遂。attempted為形容詞，表示有所圖謀的，比如 attempted suicide即自殺未遂。

make fun of 等同於 poke fun at，意指捉弄、嘲謔。Don't make fun of that boy. 不要嘲弄那個男孩。laugh at為譏笑、嘲笑，意思與上述相近。
