British women to overtake men in wealth stakes in 20 years
英國女性將在二十年內財富資產超越男性

British women will be wealthier than men within 20 years, possessing 60 percent of the country's assets compared with 48 percent today, according to a study published recently.

英國女性將在二十年內比男性更富有，擁有該國六○％的資產，與此相比，她們今日只擁有四十八％的資產，根據最近公佈的一項研究顯示。

Financial services group Liverpool Victoria based its prediction on the fact that women did better academically than men, were often property owners and had a longer life expectancy.

金融服務集團「利物浦維多利亞」的預測是根據以下事實：女性在學業上的表現比男性好，女性經常會置產，女性的預期平均壽命較長。

It forecast that by 2025 women would also be taking home more pay than men, and more women would be millionaires. The figures showed that 70 percent of women of working age now had jobs, compared with 56 percent in 1971. In the same period, the proportion of men earning had fallen from 92 percent to 80 percent.

該集團預測，到二○二五年時，女性帶回家的收入也將高過男性，更多的女性將成為百萬富翁。數據顯示，今日七成的工作年齡女性有工作，與此相比，一九七一年時只有五成六的工作年齡女性有工作。在這段期間裡，男性中有收入者的比例已從九成二下滑到八成。

overtake 指「超越，追過」，如Some predict that computers will overtake humans in chess in a few years' time（有些人預測電腦將在幾年內在下棋上打敗人腦）。它的另一個常用意思是「超車」，如 It is impossible to overtake without getting “too” close to the car in front（超車但不會和前面的車靠「太」近是不可能的事）。

wealth stake：財富資產

這個詞經常用於社會經濟分析，如 Many people believe that Taipei leaves the rest of Taiwan behind in the wealth stakes（許多人相信台北人的財富資產領先台灣其他地區）。

life expectancy：預期平均壽命

life expectancy 指某個社會中某個年齡層的人預期平均還會有多少年的壽命，如在A國，現年五十歲的人的 life expectancy 是二十年，指這個年齡的人預期平均還可以有二十年可活。當沒有特別標出年齡時，life expectancy 指某社會中的人出生時的預期平均壽命。
