Britain's next national election will probably be held in May, and the Labour Party recently unveiled its new campaign slogan: Britain Forward Not Back.

英國下屆全國選舉大概會在五月舉行，工黨最近公佈它的新競選口號：英國向前不向後。

The slogan, which is meant to suggest that Labour's opponents are stuck in the past while the Labour government marches resolutely onward,has several virtues: It's hard to argue with, and it fits unobtrusively in to almost any sentence.

這句口號，意指工黨的對手還被困在過去裡，而工黨政府果決地向前邁進，有許多優點：它很難被反駁，它可以不突兀地用在任何句子上。

The discerning voter might notice, however, that Britain Forward Not Back contains no punctuation. It also contains no verbs. This cuts down on printing costs, of course, as well as freeing up precious poster space.

不過眼尖的選民可能注意到，「英國向前不向後」沒有標點符號，它也沒有動詞。當然，這減少了印刷成本，並且也騰出了寶貴的海報空間。

campaign slogan：選舉口號。campaign一般指競選活動，slogan 是口號。類似的組合還可以有 campaign schedule（競選拜票行程），campaign manager（競選幹事）。

unveil：動詞，指揭開、披露。

Unobtrusively：不突兀地。這個字是從obtrusive 而來，obtrusive 的字根是 obtrude，指突出、伸出、強行冒出。當它變成形容詞 obtrusive 時，意指突出的、咄咄逼人的、過度表現的。

Discerning：敏銳明察的。Discerning 的字根是 discern，指察覺、明辨。Discerning 可用來表示敏銳而具有洞察力，如 a discerning critic（一位敏銳洞析的批評家）。

Punctuation：標點符號。Punctuation 的字根是 punctuate，指打斷，衍生的意思是斷句，這正是標點符號的主要功用。
